Archive of material pertaining to Confederate Captain Laurence J. Guilmartin, includes 1/6th plate tintype of Captain Guilmartin, marked in pencil "Savannah" in interior of case, fine condition...plus; Excellent 9"x8" piece of the regimental flag carried by the Montgomery Guards, with ink manuscript provenance stating "This piece of fabric was part of the original flag carried by the Montgomery Guards. It was given to Capt. Guilmartin after the late war." Fine condition...plus; Field compass made in France, and carried by Capt Guilmartin during the war.... plus; Fahy's pocket watch owned by Captain Guilmartin with CSA button fob. Very good condition. ...plus; Accoutrement strap with stenciled "CAPT. L.J. GUILMARTIN" Fine condition.... plus; Four Leaf Clover pin, probably worn on the uniform of Capt. Guilmartin while in the service.... plus; Epaulette of Capt. Guilmartin from his war uniform. ...plus; 'Gettysburg" reunion pin with image of Robert E. Lee on dangler, good condition...plus; Savannah pin with "1909" and starfish...plus; 50th Anniversary Grand Commandery of Georgia 1860." pin.... plus; Stereoview of Savannah...plus; Twenty checks signed by Guilmartin on the Savannah National Bank form, postwar, 1865. many are made out to former Confederate soldiers and are endorsed by them on verso. Very nice grouping. Laurence J. Guilmartin, (1826-1902), was a Confederate Captain of the 1st Georgia Infantry 'Guilmartin's Company of Montgomery Guards' and commanded a company in the 22ng Georgia Siege Heavy Artillery Battalion. Guilmartin's company was initially an independent company known first as Guilmartin's (later Hussey's) Battery, Georgia Artillery, and was temporarily attached to the 1st Volunteer Regiment of Georgia (Mercer's-Olmstead's Infantry). The regiment was mustered into service in May 1861. A portion of this Heavy Artillery unit was captured at the fall of Fort Pulaski and after exchange was reorganized in October 1862. Guilmartin was also a Savannah, Georgia merchant between 1850 and 1886. Guilmartin owned L. J. Guilmartin & Company, selling produce and hides. He was a member of the Hibernian Society and sat on the Board of Directors for the Savannah Cotton Exchange from 1872-1873.
