YAGER, William Overall (1833-1904) was, during the American Civil War, initially the major and commanding officer of Yager's Third Battalion Texas Mounted Volunteers, and then later, as colonel and commanding officer of the First Texas (Yager's) Cavalry (CSA).Pre-printed document signed, "Wm O. Yager, Col. 1st Tex Calry" on his Parole. In part, "I, the undersigned Prisoner of War, belonging to the Army of Trans Mississippi Department, having been surrendered by General E. Kirby Smith, CSA, Commanding said Department .... do hereby give my Parole of Honor, that I will not hereafter serve in the Armies of the Confederate States ... residence, Sequin Guadalupe (County), done at San Antonio Tex, September 2, 1865, signed by Union Major, "Geo(rge) A.Willis" as parole officer.
