A good 1865 United States "Proclamation Oath" document, partly-printed, 1p. 4to., [most likely, Perry Co., Alabama], August 31, 1865, issued to William P. Gentry., stating, in part: "I, William P. Gentry do solemnly swear…I will faithfully support, protect & defend the Constitution of the United States and Union of the States thereafter; and that I will, in like manner…support all Laws and Proclamations which have been made during the existing Rebellion with reference to the Emancipation of Slaves…William P. Gentry…". Signed by Gentry with "his mark", but curiously not witnessed by a justice of the peace or military officer. Expected folds, with minor soiling, else VG
