Autograph Letter Signed, "A.J. Pierce," to Union General Smith at Cartersville, Complaining that he was accused of "harboring bushwackers," Forsythe County, Georgia, Very Fine. Original Letter written in brown ink on period lined wove paper, 10.5" x 7.75", 1 page, with highly unusual and interesting content, reading in part: "it is true I have sons in the Confederate service that have been home but as for either of them being guilty of the charge alleged to them I declare it to be a false and defamatory accusation…" Pierce asks for a chance to clear himself and for permission to return home: "…I have a growing crop which needs my attention… need it for my little ones that are not able to watch over themselves… You have the power over me…" A well-written letter, from war-torn Georgia, with minor toning and normal folds.
