1948 Political Cartoon re Harry Truman Presidential Election. Original Illustration Art Pen and Ink Drawing by Illustrator Paul Carmack, and Signed, "Carmack" titled, "1948 HOPES", regarding Harry Truman's Presidential Election Campaign, the Stock Market and financial worries related, Choice Very Fine. This seemingly "very timely" Stock Market, financial worries related original Hand-drawn and Signed Political Cartoon, by Paul Carmack. It was actually published, March 8, 1948, by the Christian Science Monitor. This Cartoon theme showing the the 1948, presidential election of Harry Truman (represented by a well-dressed Donkey reading a stock ticker) and the stock market woes of being behind in the votes. This Illustration page measures a large 1l" x15", and is Hand-Signed "Carmack" at bottom right. The Cartoon is drawn on heavy illustrator paper, is even in tone with Carmack's fingerprint at lower right in the outer margin. Republican candidate Thomas Dewey consistently led in the polls in the weeks before the 1948 presidential election. As Wall Street's preferred candidate, stocks rallied. But the incumbent, President Harry Truman, ultimately won the election and Democrats took control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The race was so tight that the Chicago Daily Tribune, newspaper mistakenly published that "Dewey Defeats Truman". The S&P 500 fell by more than 10% over the next two weeks. Historically significant, this Political Campaign Cartoon reminds us of recent scary Stock Market activity, combined with the worries of today's Democratic Presidential Candidates. An excellent original artwork drawing for framing and display.
