1782 Revolutionary War Era, Copperplate Engraving of “ADMIRAL AUGUSTUS KEPPEL,” the important British Naval Hero, Fine. This is an original and rare Copper-Plate Engraving from Murray's, "History of the War in America" published in 1782. It has an overall size of 5" x 8" on deeply printed upon handmade period laid paper with a blank reverse. It is in very good condition with normal expected age. ADMIRAL AUGUSTUS KEPPEL (1725-1786) was a British Naval Explorer who circumnavigated the globe, and served with the British Navy in the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. At the end of the Revolutionary War he was chosen to become the First Lord of the Admiralty. This portrait was prepared for one of the first British narratives about the American Revolution, published before the official end of the war.
