Beautifully framed in a deep frame, the 1-1/2" x 2" bronze medal was issued to Private D.R. Underwood who served in B Co. B 12th Georgia Infantry. The "D.R.U" initials are engraved on the pinback bar. These awards for meritorious service were presented to Confederate veterans by the United Daughters of the Confederacy as struck on the medal. The 12th Infantry was organized in June of 1861. Underwood surrendered and was paroled May 18, 1865.
