Union soldier's war-date letter, 2 1/4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Marcus Walker, Co. E, 141st New York Vols., on patriotic stationery with illustrated vignette of a zouave triumphantly advancing on the battlefield with an American flag in hand, Laurel, [Maryland], Sept. 28, 1862," to his parents, reading in part: "-Capt. [William K.] Logie, [KIA Peach Tree Creek, Ga., 7/20/64] and 50 men is going to march and I being one of that number I thought I would tell you something about it. We have to go 26 miles to a place called Marlborough [Marlboro, Maryland]. The militia has refused to be enrolled there for the draft - Art, Dunton, George, Joe, Leyman - and myself is going. All volunteered to go so we may see a little service yet - we are going 12 miles on the cars and we will have to march 14 miles on foot - direct to Washington D. C., 141 Regt. N. Y. V. Capt. Logie, Co. E., M. Walker." The original "Union" patriotic transmittal cover (damaged) is included. Negligible spotting, else VG.
