Included are FOUR Documents Signed by "John Coughlin" who was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on 5/9/1864 at Swift Creek, VA. (Distinguished gallantry in action); twice wounded, 5/7/1864 Port Walthall, VA and 7/30/1864 Petersburg, VA. The documents April 10-16, 1865, are all concerning Lt. Col. D.M. Evans, who "is to occupy a room in the Capitol Building and administer the oath of allegiance to officers and soldiers of the Confederate Army." ... plus, Autograph Letter Signed "D(avid) M. Evans, Lt. Col.", In The Field, April 1865, advises the status of several soldiers such as "Jno F. Seath, Montgomery Slaughter "took Union wounded from Fredericksburg". ... plus, Autograph Letter Signed, April 17, 1865, "Abel E. Leavenworth", captain 9th VT Vols advising Lt. Col. Evans that included are blank parole forms. ... plus, Autograph Letter Signed, April 19, 1865, signed by Geo(rge) W. Hooker sent to Col. D.M. Evans re assigning a clerk. Hooker was wounded 5/5/1864 Wilderness, VA. ...plus, Document Signed, April 29, 1865 "Ed(ward) W(orthington) Smith" to Col. Evans regarding the relieving of the Mounted Rifles. ... plus, Autograph Letter Signed, April 17, 1865, Camp of Div. Sharp Shooters,"Sam(uel) I(rvin) Givin" regarding a CSA soldier who has not taken the oath. Givins was POW Cold Harbor, VA (date not stated, Escaped) and wounded Cold Harbor, VA (date not stated). ... plus, Autograph Letter Signed, "F.L Staeblele(sp?), April 17, 1865, to Col. Evans regarding parole blanks.
