1777 Document, 8" x 12", February 1, 1777, Connecticut, 1pp., seal residues remain, VG. The document is printed with two specific purposes. The first is an obligation assumed by Stephen Hall and Aaron Stephens .. "are bolden and bound to the Governor and Company ... in the sum of Two Thousand Pounds Lawful Money ... we jointly and severally bind ourselves, our heirs, etc." The second is the military appointment of Stephen Hall ... "is appointed Captain of and to raise a Company in the Continental Battalion to be commanded by Herman Swift Colonel, and will receive out of the Treasury ... for each non-commission officer and private of said company, Ten pounds Encouragement for their enlisting ...." The document is signed by Stephen Hall and Aaron Stephens and witnessed by Ebenz. Ehite and Ez. Williams. The document is presented in a modern matted frame and not examined outside that frame.
