Extraordinary 13-1/2” x 7” color tobacco wrapper “Ben Franklin, Half Pound, Lynchburg Virginia” with Lady Liberty placing a crown upon the head of Benjamin Franklin. The letter is on the reverse, written by “F(elix) J. Williams”, who enlisted into Co. K, NC 37th Infantry on 8/15/1862. Williams was killed May 3, 1863 at Chancellorsville, Va. Datelined Camp Greg((g), January 27, 1863, in part “I can inform you that we was ordered last night at the hour of midnight to cook rations and be ready any moment to march. Some thinks we are goinf to NC and some thinks the Yankees is trying to cross the river I have no idea myself which . ...” It comes ith the original cover. Also included is a 1973 dealers catallog listing this specific item for $50.
