War-date Union soldier's letter, 2 1/2pp, 8vo., written by Pvt. William R. Tittle, Co. H, 55th Ohio Vols., "Camp at Belle Plain, Va., Jan. 28, 1863," reading, in part: "we heard - that Burnside is relieved of his command and Hooker takes his place and it is reported that Franklin and Sumner has resigned. What is going to take place now is yet unknown, but I wait patiently for better news and i hope the time may soon come for a change that will end this war just and honorably for the North. We left the camp that we came to first. there was a general move intended when we left Stafford but on account of bad roads all the troops was ordered back to their old camps. The ones that left where we camped came back Friday night - Saturday we left their and marched down the river half a mile and camped close to some timber - Sunday we went to work to build shantys. We worked hard all day for we had all the timber to carry up hill but now we have got middling good quarters - we will stay here for some time - Col. Lee has went home. They is none of Sigel's men here except Lee's brigade. I don't know whether [future ranked BBG John Calvin] Lee has his stars on yet - W. R. Tittle." The original stamped patriotic transmittal cover is also included. Overall VG.
