Nice Union soldier’s letter written by “Bill Fell” (Albinusn R. Fell) who mustered into "D" Co. OH 6th Cavalry , 12/9/1861. He was wounded 5/9/1864 Sheridan's Raid, VA. Fell does not date the 4pp letter. From the content, it appears to beJuly 1862 while with the Army of Virginia under Gen. John Pope. The captured Confederate stationary displays an 11 star CSA Flag of which fell writes above it “Not long may it wave”, and below it “God dam the thing”. He writes in part “Oh yes today I must send you this piece of paper as it was taken this morning from a secsh. soldier ... You see it bears the emblem of tyranny and the cursed rebellion. ... It would probably had been better for me to have stayed with you but I never would have been contented until I had seen the elephant. ... You spoke in your letter about a little affair that happen to Hydes last summer but let the past be forgotten. ... You say that the moneyI sent home is not yours ... you know it is yours only. I would rather see it burnt than J.K. Fell touch it. It is money I earned honorably when I was driven from from home ... never let J.K. Fell get his clutches onit. You talk about death. What is it to die. I have seen it several times in the last two months, it surely is not frightful. ... I now have to repare for a scouting party ... Bill Fell”.
