Union soldier's 3pp. letter written by John B. Glenn of Co. C, 10th Pa. Regt., written to his sister. Dateline, Campierpont, Feb. 25, 1862 Washington DC., In part "I am bound to be somebody if I live through this war and if I fall in the field, I am determined to fall doing my duty. My name shall never be disgraced by being among the list of cowards. I would rather a thousand times die on the field than have the name coward. ... My position in rank is under the folds of our flag, and who would wish a more glorious place to fall than fall under and in defense of that 'sacred banner'. Our company is the 'Color Company' of the regiment ... I have known men here in other regiments who have shot off a finger so they could get discharged ... Such cowards are here and it would be a 'God Send' if somebody would shoot them in the head and forever discharge them from among us. ...."
