Unmounted Albumen, 14-1/2" x 10", shows General McClellan and his staff. From the National Portrait Gallery we learn that "Mathew Brady made this photograph of General George Brinton McClellan at Upton's Hill, near Centreville, Virginia, the most distant of the forts protecting the capital, near Confederate lines. One officer remembered that after he and his troops met McClellan here in August 1862, they clearly heard the cannons of the Second Battle of Bull Run..." We were able to identify seven of the nine officers. From the 3rd from the left, Gen. George W. Morell, Lt. Col. A.V. Colburn, Gen. McClellan, Lt. Col. N.B. Sweitzer, Prince de Joinville (son of King Louis Phillippe of France), and on the very right - the prince's nephew, Count de Paris. The image lacks a chunk of paper, 2-1/2" x 2", lower right, two other minor holes, wrinkled from lack of mount.
