CDV of two solders eating with four civilian dressed men. The ID is on the reverse "Group of the Mers of the French Prince ADC to Gen'l McClellan." On the far right is François d'Orléans, Prince de Joinville. In 1861, upon the outbreak of the American Civil War, he proceeded to Washington, D.C., and placed the services of his son and two of his nephews at the disposal of the United States government. U. S. President Lincoln appointed him and his nephews to the staff of Major General George B. McClellan.
