Original issue of The Pennsylvania Gazette. Philadelphia, Dec. 8, 1773. Four Pages, folio. Strip (8" x 1") excised from back page affecting a portion of the tea tax articles, otherwise a fine and desirable issue of the newspaper founded by Benjamin Franklin. Historic issue containing tea tax articles including: Queries Respecting the Tea Act, submitted to the most serious Consideration of Every Person in America; a setter signed "A Mechanic" appealing for boycott of the East-India Company and stating "….let your whole Deportment prove to the World, THAT WE WILL BE FREE INDEED;" excerpts from an address to Lord North stating "….a storm is now gathering in America which will either ruin the friends and dependents of my Lord Bute in this country, or separate the colonies for ever from its dominions…." Also contains international news and interesting advertisements including plantation sales and ads for both white and black runaway slaves.
