Union soldier's letter written by Pvt. George H. Kuhn who enlisted on 7/10/1861 as a Sergeant into "D" Co. MD 2nd Infantry and was was mustered out on 7/17/1865 at Alexandria, VA. The letter is written on patriotic letterhead, 4pp., to Hon. August Bradford (Maryland Governor), datelined Newport News, July 16, 18672. In part, "... we are very much in need of a Maryland man as colonel of this regiment for if we get into a battle and any good movement on our part, all the praise will fall on the State of New York ... We will show the world that Maryland's sons are not to be trifled with and that we are not nxxxxrs lovers ... I not only speak for myself but for two thirds of the regiment ...."
