Group of four Union soldier letters written by Charles Roberts who enlisted on 8/5/1862 as a Private and on 8/23/1862 he mustered into "C" Co. OH 94th Infantry. Roberts was Mustered Out on 6/5/1865 at Washington, DC. Roberts was wounded 5/14/1864 Resaca, GA The group includes; Camp Buell, September 21, 1862, 4pp, ink, on patriotic letter sheet to his father. In part, "I heard the bullets buzz at the Kentucky river and the bombs flew the next morning over our heads pretty fast. I seen the rebel cannons. There was a big force marching on us and if we stayed there for an hour longer, we would have been taken prisoner. We marched six days and nights and when we stopped, was all give out. ..." ... plus, The 1st of the month (December 1863?), 4pp., ink, to his father. In part, "We have had another big fight since I wrote to you but I come out safe. We charged Lookout Mountain in one day and the next we marched and charged in... large quantity of prisoners. And the next day we drawed 4 days rations and marched off after the rebels and we kept taking them in squads all along the road. We went to Ringgold ... There we burned the depot and tore up the railroad and burned the ties and destroyed all we could. We got a pile of meat and honey ... There was not a boy got hurt in our company ..." ... plus, (May) 1864 2pp., ink, to his sister. In part, "I had the luck to get hit this time but it did not break any bones. It went through my arm and side. It hurt a little but it is doing fine. ... I am at a hospital at Jefferson and when you direct your letters, just put Jefferson Indiana, Hospital No. 4 ...." ... plus, General Hospital No. 4, Jefferson Indiana, 7th of this month (September October?), 2pp., to his sister. In part "On Saturday last we had a big Lincoln meeting here. We had a big dance. The soldiers went in free ... and at night we had a torchlight procession ... but suddenly the drum commenced beating and the Rebs was coming and we went down and got our guns. ..." 4 letters.
