Augustus Williamson Bradford (1806-1881), a Democrat, was the 32nd Governor of Maryland in the United States from 1862 to 1866. He served as governor during the Civil War and paid a heavy price for his devotion to the Union. The Document Signed by governor "A. W. Bradford", 13-3/4" x 10-1/2", appointing Benjamin F. Moore to Second Lieutenant of Company A., Twelth Regiment Maryland Volunteer Infantry, July 5, 1864, Annapolis, Md. Minor fold splits. Moore enlisted on 7/5/1864 as a 2nd Lieutenant into "A" Co. MD 12th Infantry and mustered out on 11/6/1864.
