Manuscript Special Order No. 22, 2pp., Hd. Qtr 5th Army Corp, January 24, 1865, issued by command of Maj. Gen Crawford. In part, "In compliance with recommendation of the Medical Director, Quinine Whiskey will be issued to the Corps for five successive days. ... Medical Officers will at once take measures to procure the necessary amount of Quinine. The proportion to be two ounces to five gallons of Whiskey."
