Two pieces include; Signed CDV of Andrew M. Cochran, on the reverse "Respectfully A. M. Cochran, Capt. 48th Ohio" with backmark "The Galveston Photograph Company, Market Street, Galveston, Texas". The seated image is that of Cochran who, on 12/7/1861, was commissioned into "E" Co. OH 48th Infantry, was listed POW 4/8/1864 Sabine Cross Roads, LA. and exchanged 10/23/1864. ... plus, Document titled 'LIST OF OFFICERS, PRISONERS OF WAR AT CAMP FORD, TYLER, SMITH COUNTY, TEXAS", giving rank, regiment, where and when captured". The document is 4pp, 9-1/2" x 12", removed and lists +/- 175 prisoners including Captain Cochran, Captured Mansfield LA, April 8th, 1864. Camp Ford was a POW camp near Tyler, Texas, during the American Civil War. It was the largest Confederate-run prison west of the Mississippi. The first Union prisoners to arrive at camp Ford in August 1863 included officers captured in Brashear City Louisiana in June, and included naval personnel captured when the 'Queen Of The West' and the 'Diana' were seized by the Confederate Navy. With over 2,000 new prisoners taken in Louisiana on April 8 and 9 1864, at the battles of Mansfield, and Pleasant Hill, the stockade was quadrupled in size.
