Alabama Confederate soldier letter, 4pp. ink, written by John W. Baker who enlisted on 8/1/1863 as a Private into "C" Co. AL 61st Infantry. A letter of family interest, in small part, "I have joined the Ambulance Corps .. It is to carry the wounded off the the battlefield and I am make arrangements to join the Freemasons ... My dear wife and children, I want to see you all. I shed tears about you. Try to live in peace among yourselves, with your neighbors and above all with your God.... Pray for me that if we never meet more on earth, we may meet in heaven to part no more ..."
