Confederate soldier's 2pp letter to his sister, written by W.F. Scott. In part, "I have got back to camp. We have been down on the river (Rapidan) to meet the Yankees. We started yesterday morning and got back today. There was some fighting close to us but we weren't in it. There was some shelling and skirmishing. They say they took 50 prisoners from the Yankees and killed some few but I reckon they went back by us coming back to camp. ...". There is a copy of a published report titled "1864: W.F. Scotts Letter to his Sister"The Battle of Morton's Ford was a battle of the American Civil War, fought February 6-7, 1864. Confederate Lt. Gen. Richard S. Ewell's Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia resisted the crossings, with sporadic fighting and the most severe fighting at Morton's Ford. By February 7, 1864, the attacks had stalled, and the Union army withdrew during the night.
