Uncolored print, 11-3/4" x 7", titled, "FREDERICK BARRACKS, Built before the Revolution and used as a prison for Cornwallis' army. Now occupied by the Maryland Home Brigade." This print was from a soldier's original artwork. The soldier was Corporal Henry Bacon, Co. D, 13th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia who enlisted 4/30/1861, was wounded 8/30/1862 2nd Bull Run, VA., and was discharged for wounds on 12/19/1862 at Philadelphia, PA.During the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), the buildings and grounds were used to house British and German prisoners of war.[2] The barracks were put to a variety of uses during the 19th century including a state armory, silkworm production site, and military hospital after the nearby Battle of South Mountain and subsequent Battle of Antietam in September 1862.
