Inscribed Union soldier's mailing cover with Mine Run battle content with letter written by Pvt. William A. Moudy, Co. F, 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry, reading, in full: "We were fighting at a desperate rate and he jumped off his horse & told me to hold his horse. I did not care for holding [his] horse because I had enough to do with my own horse. To satisfy him I took the horse, had the horse but a short time. The staff officer came along & ordered [me] to take the horse back which I did, Dec. 2, 1863." The letter: 3pp. 8vo., reads, in part: "Army of the Potomac, Dec. 28, 1863 - we are now with the brigade lying near Bealton Station doing picket duty. There is some regiments going home to reenlist. There is some talk of our regiment going home to reenlist. I for my part hardly know what to do - if our company goes I think I shall go to - if the war aint over in one year it wont be over in five years. I was in for a ten day furlough but - this reenlisting business spoiled it - I am glad to hear the girls are still plenty - Wm. Moudy-". Overall VG. (2 pieces)
