Pre-printed, Confederate Furlough, 8-1/2” x 6-3/4”, issued to Granville Mason who enlisted on 4/17/1861 into "D" Co. VA 13th Infantry and was wounded 9/19/1864 Winchester, VA., confined 9/25/1864 Point Lookout, MD., exchanged 2/10/1865, and paroled 5/13/1865 Louisa Court House, VA. The document is datelined Richmond, Va., February 16, 1865. In large part, “In obedience to instructions from the Secretary of War, the following named men (paroled prisoners) are granted furloughs for 40 days ... at the expiration of which time they will , if exchanged, rejoin their respective commands; otherwise they will report in person at Camp of Paroled Prisoners, Richmond Virginia ... ”
