The 3-page letter is written by a Union Soldier, Nelson V. Stanton who mustered into "H" Co. MA 15th Infantry, 7/12/1861 and mustered Out on 7/29/1864. Stanton was listed as wounded 10/21/1861 Ball's Bluff, VA (Gunshot in face), wounded again 7/2/1863 Gettysburg, PA (Gunshot in left side and arm), and again 5/7/1864 Wilderness, VA (Wounded by piece of shell in breast) and for the final time, 5/12/1864 Spotsylvania Court House, VA (Wounded by piece of shell in side).
