War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written on embossed American Eagle over shield patriotic stationery by Pvt. Chancey Bullock, Co. C, 34th New York Vols., (DOD Harrison's Landing, VA, 7/29/62), "Camp near Yorktown, Va., April 13, 1862," to Miss. Carolina Emery, in part: "- I am still in the land of the living - we lay not far from Yorktown where Lord Cornwallis surrendered - I think it tolerable that they will have to surrender or do worst, the rebels are very strongly fortified, but - when our big guns - speak - it will make them skedaddle with fear and trembling to give an account to what they call old Rail Splitter, honest old Abe - we have a number of Albany boys in our company - Chancy Bullock."
