A great presidential related Civil War era "U. S. Military Telegraph", 1p. 8vo., sent by Lt. Col. Benjamin F. Coates, 96th Ohio Vols. as post commanding at Gauley Bridge, West Virginia, July 16, 1863, sent to General Rutherford B. Hays' aag, Captain James L. Botsford of the 23rd Ohio, announcing, in full: "Thirty (30) or forty (40) of the enemy came inside of the blockade this morning at day break & fired on our pickets on the Thompkin's Farm near the mansion & immediately fell back. They are supposed to be of the 8th Va. Cavalry dismounted. I have sent a squad of men up the road
