A great war-date battle of Fort Fisher, N. C. related letter, 1p. 4to., written by Sergeant Alonzo Searles, Co. F, 169th New York Vols. "Camp 169th N. Y. Vols., [Fort Fisher, N. C], Feb. 4, 1865," in part: "- we have had a good deal of hard fighting for the past year & our Regt. has got reduced down to a fine thing - the Johnnies begin to feel very sore over their proceedings & are getting very much disheartened. The fall of Fort Fisher has struck a death blow to their cause & they are getting defeated at almost every point. John D. Warren was blown up in the explosion of the magazine the morning after we took Fort Fisher - Alonzo Searles, Sergt. Co. F, 169th N. Y. Vol., Fort Fisher, N. C." Overall near fine.
