Civilian 2-page Letter written by "Hattie" to her soldier friend N. H. Willcox. Datelined Coveington November 9th, 1862. In part, "When you wrote that you were on guard forty eight hours, I thought that was rather hard ... I should not like to work for Uncle Same very will. They have sent a good many of their drafted soldiers back and I'm afraid that they will draft again before long ... I hope that this awful war will soon be brought to close. Martin Cleveland has come home, he says there is a good many of the Soldiers that has run away" .... ... plus, A second 1-page letter signed only by "Ray". Datelined, Hd. Qtrs 141 Pa Vols, Dec. 12, 1863, to his mother. In part, "God has mercifully spared me through our hard fought battle in which my Reg. lost more than any other in the Brigade. On Tuesday after the battle at ... my Regt was on duty (pickett) ... a Reb sharp shooter shot at me 13 times during Tuesday while I was on duty ..." ... plus, a Cover to Col. H J. Madill, Commanding 141st Pa Vols.
