Pamphlet, "Address Illustrative of the Nature and Power of the Slave States: And the Duties of the Free States," Josiah Quincy, Boston, June 5, 1856, 32pp. Quincy presents a strong condemnation of slavery and the power of the slave states. Quincy argued that slavery was a moral and political evil that threatened the very foundation of the American republic. He warned that the slave states were gaining control over the federal government and were using their power to extend slavery into new territories. Quincy called on the free states to unite and resist the expansion of slavery, arguing that the future of the nation depended on it. The pamphlet was a powerful indictment of slavery and a call to action for the abolitionist movement.
