A Confederate soldier’s 2pp., letter written by Constantine A Hege who on 8/8/1862, he mustered into "H" Co. North Carolina 48th Infantry, was listed as: POW 10/14/1863 Bristoe Station, VA. Confined 10/16/1863 Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC. and took the Oath of Allegiance 3/14/1864 Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC. Dateline: Seven Pines near Richmond, Sunday June 21st, 1863, to his parents. In part, “Mr. Leifhand of Lexington is here today and I am going to send this letter with him. ... I also sent some books & with Lt. Perrel (David C. Perrell, Wounded 8/25/1864 Reams' Station, VA). I would be glad if you would send me a piece of hard soap and some onions with Lt. Perrel when he comes out again. .. I will here send Mary a ring which I made yesterday ....”
