Charcoal painting, 16” x 24”, of a seated uniformed Confederate soldier. On the reverse is an ID in green ink, “Absalom J. Autry Co. A. 1st Confederate Battn”. Also is a 2005 research fax identifies the soldier as Absalom Autry who enlisted on 2/17/1862 as a Priv. into "A" Co. Confederate States Army 1st Bttn. On 4/6/1863, he transferred into "D" Co. Georgia 5th Infantry, and was Surrendered on 4/26/1865 at Greensboro, NC.Charcoal Painting was an inexpensive portrtait painting. It is a black and white portrait drawn and shaded using charcoal. You can use a stick of charcoal (rather like a thin black pastel) or a charcoal pencil, which is like an ordinary pencil but it has charcoal running through it instead of graphite.
