Confederate soldier’s 1pp letter written by Edward P. Rucker who on 4/22/1861, mustered into "A" Co. Virginia 11th Infantry. Rucker was listed POW 2/7/1864, exchanged 2/15/1864 Point Lookout, MD. POW 4/1/1865 Five Forks, VA. confined 4/4/1865 Point Lookout, MD. Took the Oath Allegiance 6/17/1865 Point Lookout, MD. Edward wrote the letter to Virginia Miller of Washington D. C.—a southern sympathizer who aided numerous imprisoned Confederate officers. Datelined: Prison Camp Point Lookout, May 29th 1865, in part “I am very much afraid you are becoming perplexed with my stupid epistles; but I do most earnestly assure you that I have been a prisoner so long & in such ill health that I am almost a complete child and I fear that I am loosing my mind. ...
