Pamphlet, “Stonewall Jackson and Chancellorsville, A Paper Read Before The Military Historical Society Of Massachusetts,” 1904, by James Power Smith, Captain and A. D. C. to Gen. Jackson, 22pp, lacks original cover. The very positive review of Jackson includes comments on His Humanity, religion, politics, Personal Traits, Solderly qualities, Military genus. He continues with examples of Jackson’s successes. Near the end is a copy of Gen. Lee’s comment, “At the field hospital, in the wilderness, after midnight, the left arm was amputated near the shoulder and a ball taken from the right hand. ... "1 cannot express my regret at this occurrence. Could I have directed events, I should have been disabled in your stead. I congratulate you upon the victory which is due to your skill and energy.” At Guinea's Station, on the Fredericksburg Eailroad, the next Sunday afternoon at 3:15, the dying soldier, like Wolfe at Quebec, was "content to die," and saying, "No, no, let us pass over the river and rest under the shade of the trees !" the Christian soldier went up on the hills where there is no war, nor strife, but the happy reign of eternal peace.
