Eben Dyer Jordan Sr. (1822-1895) was an American business executive, best remembered as the co-founder of the department store chain Jordan, Marsh & Co. with Benjamin L. Marsh in 1841. Autograph Letter Signed “Eden D. Jordon Jr”, 2pp. dateline Danville (Maine), Oct 15, 1862, written to Maine Adjutant General John Hodsdon. In part, “We received your order requesting us to furnish the names of all men who have enlisted in the serevice during the present rebellion ...” Jordon presents two questions to Hodsden who replies on the same letter which he returned. “First: Will townes who have paid bounties to men from other towns have those men accredited to them.” .. “Second. Will minors who have enlisted in other towns where there fathers resides be accredited to the towns where they enlisted or where their father resides.”
