Gustavus Murray Bascom was on 4/23/1861 commissioned into US Volunteers Aide-De-Camp. He was Mustered Out on 8/15/1861, and on 8/20/1861, he was commissioned into US Volunteers Adjutant Gen'l Dept. He was Mustered Out on 7/1/1866. Transportation ticket 2-1/2” x 1-3/4”, “This is to Certify that I have been furnished transportation this day by the Cincinnati & Covington Ferry On Official Busines from Cincinnati ... Nove. 23, 1863 ...” It is signed on the reverse “G.M. Bascom, Maj. AAG”. Originally a ferry, she was taken over by the U.S. on February 13, 1863. Burned by U.S. troops to prevent her capture by the Confederates on May 5, 1864 at Dunn's Bayou on the Red River.
