Union soldier’s 2pp. letter written to his sister Emily by Pvt. Aiken Capstraw who on 12/28/1863, mustered into "H" Co. New York 98th Infantry. Capstraw was wounded 5/14/1864 Drewry's Bluff, VA (Severe wound in left leg, amputated) and was disch wounds on 10/18/1864. Datelined: USA Gen. Hospital, West Philadelphia - Ward 4, June 4, 1864, in part “My hand is doing very well & I will soon be be all right again - so that I can participate in the taking of Richmond ... but my ardent wish is that that celebrated place may fall long before my hand is well. .. Our ward master is an Alabamian ... There are nearly 70 patients in this ward ... there were also over 900 wounded at Fredericksburgh ... I have not heard from Silas - he may be a prisoner ...”
