George Leonard Andrews (1828-1899) was an American professor, civil engineer, and soldier. He was a brigadier general in the Union Army during the American Civil War and was awarded the honorary grade of brevet major general. Autograph Letter Signed “G.L. Andrews” written on Astor House letterhead, New York Feb. 24, 1868 to Governor E(dwin) D(enison) Morgan. I large part, I hope it may be in your favor to secure the confirmation of Mr. Astero, as it would both gratify and strengthen your friends here.” In a separate hand, “I most cheerfully concur with this request, Richard Connelly” Connely was part of the Tamany Hall as City Comptroller.
