A pair of Union Cavalryman soldier’s letters written by Sergeant Freet Miner, Oneida Independent who on 9/4/1861 mustered into "Oneida" Co. New York Indpt Cavalry. Both letters are written on McClellan Patriotic letterhead to his mother, including; Datelined: Washington Cavalry, Camp Oneider, October 29, 1861, 2pp., in part “We are quartered in Washington .. in a large brick house ... There is one hundred and five men in our Company ... The Washington folks think that we are the best company ... I think we will never be called into service but if we do, I shall fite ...” ... plus, Datelined: Camp Oneider Washington , Nov. 8, 1861, 1861, 4pp., in part “I sent my likeness to you in my uniform. I have been promoted since I wrote last (Corpl 9/4/1861) ... I have been in sight of the Rebels twice ...”
