SUMNERS, Hatton William (1875-1962) was a Democratic Congressman from the Dallas, Texas area, serving from 1913 to 1947. He rose to become Chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee. Interesting Check issued on “The Sergeant at Arms” account, issued by “Hatton W. Sumners”, June 11, 1914 to Commonwealth National Bank in the amount of $450.00. GLASS, Carter (1858-1946) was an American newspaper publisher and Democratic politician from Lynchburg, Virginia. He represented Virginia in both houses of Congress and served as the United States Secretary of the Treasury under President Woodrow Wilson. He played a major role in the establishment of the U.S. financial regulatory system, helping to establish the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Check drawn on Treasurer of the United States, June 24, 1938, in the amount of $208.13, issued to “Carter Glass “who endorses on the reverse.
