In part, " Tappan, a United States Representative from New Hampshire, declares, "There is... but one hope left for Freedom in Kansas, and that the people of this country are about to avail themselves of. It is, to wrest from the hands of the slave Democracy the power they have abused, and vest it in those who will bring back the Administration of the Government to the early policy of its founders!" ... ,plus, "The Slavery Question. Speech of Hon. W.R.W. Cobb, of Ala., in the House of Representatives, May 19, 1860." 8pp., untrimmed, McGill, Washington DC. In part, " "If the South have [sic] a constitutional right that slave property, the same as all other property, should be protected within the scope of the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, and the North will not submit to such a constitutional guarantee, in justice and fair dealing, the South ought not to be held to submit to the bonds of union. When it is determined that the North will not live by the Constitution, can it be claimed in fairness that the South shall? "
