War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Corp. Frederick F. Martin, Co. B, 73rd Penn. Vols. Camp Lookout, Darnstown, Md., Dec. 2, [1861], in part: "…there has been a report that some of our boys were asleep on their post…it is not so. There was one of our men arrested and tried and cleared of the charge…he was a young fellow from down Jersey…we get a pass and travel around the country in search of fun or any thing we can lay our hands on. There is two men out of each company in the brigade making entrenchment's for practice…it is a fine affair. It covers about an acre of ground…it is situated on the top of a hill from which you can see the country for a mile around…we are getting ready to march. We expect to go to Frederic City…it is a distance of about 30 miles…Fred F. Martin, Co. B, 30th [73rd] P. V…". VG
